India's Best Moments In Cricket

When it comes to watching cricket,  one cannot predict the game completely. This uncertainty in prediction showcases some of the magical and best moments in cricketing. India has risen up as a cricketing giant these days. Youth packed team, good run chasing ability, powerful batting line up are some of the few amazing traits to mention about the Indian Cricket team. In this article, I am sharing some of the best moments in Indian cricketing growth.(in no particular order)

1) The 1983 World Cup

India was considered as underdog when it started off for the 1983 world cup at England. No one has ever expected that India will fly back home with the World Cup trophy in hand. India gave a easy target of 183 run in a 60-over match batting first at the Lords. But it was more shocking to see that the mighty West Indies team was all out for just 140. This was India's maiden world cup victory and one of the proud moments.

2) Sehwag's 309 and 319 runs in a test inning

Before Sehwag smashed 309 runs, there were no any Indian batsman to reach the 300+ runs runs in a test match. The interesting part associated with this is that Sehwag scored this massive triple century against their cricket arch rival Pakistan at their home ground. (Multan, 2004). This was one of the most celebrated innings played by Sehwag. Later in 2008, Sehwag scored 319 against South Africa in Chennai. Till date, Sehwag is the only Indian to have scored triple centuries.

3) Anil Kumble's 600th test wicket

On January 17th, 2008, Anil Kumble became the only Indian bowler and third in the world to reach the 600th test wickets landmark. Playing the test against the Aussies in Perth, Kumble reached this mile stone. His 600th test victim was Andrew Symonds. Kumble bags a total of 619 test wickets in his cricketing career. This was one of the greatest moment for the Indians he is the only Indian to reach that record.

4) The ICC T20 World Cup, 2007

What could be more great moment for India than winning the first edition of the T20 World Cup. India were once again a world champion since 1983 when it won the World Cup. India beat their arch rival Pakistan and bagged the final over win in one of the thrilling finals ever played. Whole India and Indian fans across the globe celebrated this moment with great enthusiasm.

5) Yuvraj Singh's six 6s in an over and a fastest fifty

The first T20 world cup was even more exciting and great for India as the world cricket witnessed a rare but amazingly exciting moment. Yuvraj Singh hit six 6s in an over, being the first Indian and second after Herschelle Gibbs in the world to have achieved this record in international cricket. This match was more exciting as Yuvraj bagged the record of fastest fifty sparing only 12 balls (he still holds this record). Yuvraj smashed every deliveries of Stuart Board in achieving this record.

6) Exclusive Indian double centuries in ODI

This one of those great moments that India boasts off exclusively till date. There are only three double centuries being hit in ODI cricket and all the centuries are in the name of Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Virendar Sehwag and Rohit Sharma. Sachin being first scored 200* against South Africa, followed by Virendar Sehwag who scored 219 against West Indies and Rohit Sharma who scored 209 against Austrailia.

Rohit hit 16 sixes while scoring the double century and that stands as a record till date for the maximum number of sixes in ODI.

7) 2011 World Cup

India won the World Cup for the second time since 1983 but this time defeating the neighboring cricketing giant Sri Lanka. In this match once again captain Dhoni played the match finisher innings. India bagged the world cup title for the first time in their home ground. This victory was very hugely celebrated in India.

8) ICC Champions Trophy 2013

This is another celebrated great moments of Indian Cricket. India became the champions once again after they beat England by just 5 runs in their home ground. Despite being given a easily chase able target of 130 runs, England failed getting it and were defeated by a nominal margin of 5 runs.

9) India's 418/5 vs West Indies , 2011

This is another great moment that every Indian cricket fan remembers. In this match against West Indies, India scored highest total in its cricketing history. This is the match when Sehwag smashed 219 runs off 149 deliveries. Always refreshing to see the massive shots in this match from the Indian side especially coming off from Sehwag's bat.
