Interesting facts about Sachin Tendulkar

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is one of the worshiped cricketer batsman the world has ever encountered. His talent and humanly behavior has made him rightful person to be famed as the great cricketer. Over times Sachin has made the viewers and his fans so happy with his great performance. If one compares cricket as an art, then undoubtedly Sachin is one of the fine and and most talented artist. Today I will be sharing some of the interesting facts about Sachin. Some of this may be common whilst some may be what biological fellas call as "museum specimen". Lets find out some!!!


Sachin Tendulkar

fact 1 : Tendulkar has been named after the famous Indian music composer Sachin Dev Burman (a.k.a SD Burman) as his father was a great fan of  SD Burman himself and his songs.

fact 2 : Sachin along with his pal Vinod Kambli has set a world record of 664 runs partership for Shraddhashram school in inter-school tournament in 1988. This something unachievable partnership took the duo's name in Wisden Book of Cricket Records.

fact 3 : Sachin wanted to became a fast bowler in his youth days. He once took the trial in Aussie fast bowler Dennis Lillie's MRF Pace Foundation. It was Lillie who told the young lad to focus in his batting as he seemed to have a great career there. Beside Tendulkar, it was Sourav Ganguly who was rejected being a fast bowler.

fact 4 : Sachin is ambidextrous, he bats with his right hand but signs autograph, plays tennis  with his left hand.

fact 5 : Sachin is the first cricketer to be given out by TV umpire (3rd umpire) while he was run out (by fielding GOD Jhonty Rhodes)  playing against South Africa in Durban in 1992.

fact 6 : Tendulkar got his first ODI century after playing 78 matches and five years in international cricket. On September 9, 1994 he scored his first triple digit score (117) in ODI.

fact 7 : He was given a pair of pads by his cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar when he was a school boy. He made his career test debut against Pakistan in 1989 (aged 15) wearing those pads.

fact 8: Tendulkar was without a bat contract before the start of 1996 world cups. At the end of tournament a famous tyre manufacturer MRF sponsored his willow.

fact 9 : Sachin has most number of stadium (ground) appearances than any cricketer.

fact 10 : He was out on a duck in his ODI debut against Pakistan.

fact 11 : Tendulkar is a true patriot beside being a great cricketer. The inner side of his cricket kit pack contains a tri-color (a.k.a Indian national flag). Beside he always has a tri-color patched on his helmet on the game he represents India.

fact 12 : Sachin has an interesting record of scoring 5 test centuries before he turned 20. This  has been a world record till date.

fact 13Returned from a four-month tour of Australia after the 1992 World Cup and turned up immediately to play for Kirti College in April 1992.

fact 14 : Till 2008 he didn't scored a century against Australia in their home ground.

fact 15 : he is the only batsman to have a record of "century of century".

fact 16 : he always puts up his left pad first and then the right before leaving to bat.

fact 17 : Tendulkar along with Brian Lara are the fastest to cross the landmark of 10,000 test runs. Both of them have completed it playing 195 innings

fact 18 : Tendulkar has the record of hitting most ODI centuries in a calender year. (9 centuries in 1998)

fact 19 : He is the only player to be in ICC top 10 ranking for ten years.

  • highest run scorer in ODI
  • highest century in ODI
  • maximum number of man of matches
  • and last but not the least "most number of nineties" in ODI.
